Sorolla study!

The past two weeks I have been working on this study! This is one I wanted to spend a longer time on this, really trying to focus on the accuracy of the piece. Trying to get the scale and angles accurate. I went to analyse the photo, putting it in greyscale and then breaking it down into light and dark to try and understand where most of the focus was. I tried to capture that in my final piece. Half way through doing this my laptop had passed away (luckily I back up my work!) and when I opened up my new laptop, I realised the piece is really saturated and vibrant! I really like how saturated the figure is.
But, before I started, I broke down the piece into two values. I then zoomed in piece by piece and got up the reference and zoomed in to that and tried to match the colours the best I could. I realise now there are a lot of tones I got incorrect but I feel like its more accurate then I usually get. The more I do studies the more I start to understand colours and values.
Something I learnt ALOT from was studying the fabric. I usually just wimp away from fabric materials, since I .. afraid.. however this time I wanted to go in and really try and focus on it. Trying to understand the folds and the weight of the fabric, how it draped over his head and bunched around his feet. I also found the jug very interesting, I struggled to get the bottom heavy shape, and the warmer tones in it.
Next study I do I really want to work on my rendering skills and getting better with edges and making the strokes blend well into each other when need be, I realise all my paintings do look like they have been done on a computer... which isnt a bad thing! However I want to really get beautiful brush work,

Until next time!
