Finally talkin' drawtober!

Hey! This is going to be a ramble post about my drawtober. I had it up on my art station and had written about it there but the more I think about it the more I realise there is so much I can improve upon and how this work doesnt represent me anymore! Well... technically.

Something that was really important to me was finishing everything on the deadline! So each piece took 5 days (apart from the last illustration which took 6) so over all resulting to the 31 days of october! Now, usually when I am trying to work on an illustration I give myself a few weeks to get it down! So working within 5 days was difficult for me. However working to short tight deadlines was just what I needed to give me a little bit of training to see what I could do in those time frames. Getting feedback was a little difficult since I dont expect people to reply straight away since were all artists working hard! So sometimes it would take a while before I would get feedback on a post but when I did I would evaluate it and apply it.

Letting a story flow through these pieces was my main goal and trying to leave hints that lead the story forward and then leave hints from the previous parts of the story. Something I wanted to do was also practice with me colouring and lighting and something I rarely do is night time scenes, so something I wanted to focus on was trying to get that accurate.

Here are the pieces! My biggest hope was to keep continuity with the style and the character since its something I have always lacked. I did turn arounds for the characters so it was something I could reference back to while doing these pieces. When I was getting to these characters I tried to keep the colours continuous and then applying the lighting and other attributes. The piece I find myself being most proud of is the forth one down with the spirit sat on the stool. I wanted to capture his emotion and use the lighting to add a sense of mystery and loneliness, and then make the final two more positive and trying to use colour and light to reflect change and positivity.

Here are the turn arounds for the characters. I wanted to keep them consistent and to really show off their colours and forms. I wanted to show off the love and care I wanted to put into the characters and showing through their designs how they're both difference yet similar. I wanted to add the cooler tones from the wisp into the panda, and the warm fur colour of the panda to the spirit (well.. i tried to give him warm eyes)

If I were to do this again I would defiantly organise my time better since I was trying to work this in with my university work, This took up a lot of the month and I didn't get much design work in for my project. But it has been about a month since I have completed this and have worked on my university project since and I think I am making good progress. Something I want to carry through with this is putting as much love and care into every single thing I do. For this project and my work for my 601 uni project I am having a lot of fun and tackling my projects as they come!

Here's a sneak preview to my uni work. until next time!
