light and shadow

This weeks assignment is on light and shadows! I was really excited to jump right in and get started. The reference this week was provided so when watching the feedback sessions I could really learn and try to apply it to what I was learning.  Once again, I worked on all poses for 45 minutes and used this to warm up! (Which i find really helps)

Day 1:
So here we are on day 1! As you can tell... the struggle is real. The way I drew the pose very awkward instead of having a natural flow, I think I was thinking too much. I feel like the forms are completely lost as well, however I feel like looking back at this I understand a little more after a friend suggested I image this figure covered in a wire frame.
I feel like I could of pushed the values lot more and had more of a range and tightened it a bit more but I need to learn to use my time wisely, but I don't want to get distracted by looking back and forth

 Day 2:
Roll on day 2! This one I feel like it looks better, however I think its only because the image itself had a lot more range of soft and hard shadows and more easier to distinguish value structure.
A lot of my lines are too dark and stand out too much breaking the gradient and making it look cartoony.

 Day 3:
This one was a lot of fun, The forms were difficult and the shadows wrapping around the forms distorted my eyes.. However I spent some time analysing the piece before hand for a few minutes before starting to tackle the piece. I really liked how shes leaning forwards allowing to show the stomach form and the ribs, I feel like doing this I learnt a lot more anatomical things and while doing this I feel like I understand the ribs and stomach a little more. I really like the bounce shadow on the back of her leg to. I hoped to capture that.

 Day 4:
Capturing the forms on this one was a CHALLENGE! I decided to put a bit of a shadow behind the form to try and capture it a little more.. However I had a bit of an issue at the end where I realised it doesn't look ok. However I know not to do this again, I think that maybe darkening the edge of the form where it curves around and naturally darkens.

 Day 5:
Here's the final day, boy what a challenge! The shadow running down on the side of the body was a tough one to capture but it was a brain stonker. The bounce light on the under arm and breast was fun to try and get right to, I feel like I have defiantly made it too bright but I struggled to show those forms.
