Hatching in values/ gradients

This week was really really fun! I know I only have 4 instead of five but this week me and my boyfriend celebrated his birthday! So we planned not to draw that day. we ended up cooking a big pot of curry and rice, and a tray of brownies! Not that that's relevant, I just had a lovely day!

I really enjoyed this part of the assignment, I really had a lot of fun with these. I wanted to use this technique to now only show  the values with light but to almost convey emotion. Each one of these took about 10 minutes, which is funny because I felt like on some 10 minutes was too much and on some 10 minutes was too little.. In some of these I feel like you can almost feel my panic to get it done! But it was nice to challenge myself. Also since this again was silhouettes and hatching gradients, I thought a lot more about negative shape, since I really wanted to convey the silhouettes so my gradients wouldn't get lost and make it look like a weird mass. I also exaggerated a lot of the poses for the same reason.

Something I had issue with however was sometimes making things too dark for too long and messing up the gradient, or not pushing hard enough and losing the form completely. I think this maybe down to the brush I was using maybe I should adjust my pen pressure or lower the opacity so I can gain the confidence to make the lighter areas darker.

However I will push on to next week, excited with the new challenge ahead, I think next week is light and shadows. I cant wait to show what I have done and learnt !
